Just a few weeks after the official confirmation of the facelift for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the prototype of the four-wheel-drive vehicle has made its public debut on the roads. Spy photos have been captured of two distinctive prototypes undergoing tests, alongside a previously updated model. The white and silver models were identified by their 21-inch alloy wheels and appear to belong to the high-spec Summit category.
In addition to covering the Jeep and Grand Cherokee logos with a black strip, the company has only camouflaged the front end. This suggests that the exterior updates will focus primarily on this area, while the rest of the vehicle's structure is expected to remain unchanged.
Despite the camouflage, a new pair of vertical DRL lights and redesigned air intakes can be discerned. ADAS sensor modules are also available as in the previous model. The headlights seem to retain their shape but may feature updated LED units. Similar updates for the taillights can be anticipated, along with potential minor adjustments to the rear bumper in later prototypes.
Inside the cabin, the center console has been concealed, indicating upcoming updates to the infotainment system. Jeep is also expected to introduce updated active safety features in the Grand Cherokee, which already includes limited hands-free driving capabilities in selected models.
Currently, there is no official information regarding any updates to the engines. However, rumors suggest that the Grand Cherokee facelift will discontinue the current V6 and V8 engines. Instead, it is rumored that the hybrid 4xe model could receive a turbocharged combustion engine option. The Hurricane 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine borrowed from the larger Wagoneer model is likely a suitable alternative.
It is worth noting that the fifth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee first appeared in the form of a long-wheelbase version in January 2021, followed by the standard model in September 2021. Enhanced versions of both models are expected to launch next year, likely as 2026 models. These updates will coincide with the refreshed versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, alongside the new generations of the Compass and Cherokee models.
