Recent patent filings indicate that Honda is working on an SUV with a boxy design and pickup features. The vehicle draws direct design inspiration from the classic Honda Element, aiming to capture the interest of many consumers. While the unique styling of the Honda Element garnered a loyal fan base, its discontinuation in 2011 left a void in the market. Honda's re-registration of this vehicle's patent has reignited hopes for its revival.
The patent drawings showcase a crossover with a clever rear section that extends into a rooftop tent, seemingly providing what looks like a separate space in the back of the vehicle. This design appears perfect for family camping trips, but what's even more intriguing is the striking similarity between the patented vehicle and the original Element. This includes rear doors that open in reverse, a shell-like hood, and a streamlined roof that modernizes the classic boxy shape.
Additionally, the vehicle can transform into a compact pickup with standard interior space, able to switch from a single-seat truck to a two-person transport truck. Bold wheel arches, foldable side steps, and a full-width rear light bar give the model a robust and adventurous appearance.
This patent, submitted in December 2022 and published last June, has sparked speculation about a potential revival of the Element. The Honda Element was first introduced as a concept vehicle in 2001 and entered production in 2002, remaining on sale until 2011 when it was discontinued without a direct successor.
