Peugeot recently introduced its new E-5008 electric vehicle in Europe, a notable feature of which is the availability of seven seats, a feature that is not offered by brands like Tesla. The seven-seat configuration is standard, not optional. The vehicle is produced based on the STLA Medium platform from Stellantis, and Peugeot has chosen to launch both electric and combustion engine versions simultaneously.
The possibility of a third row of seats in the Peugeot E-5008 electric vehicle is due to its wheelbase being extended to 2.9 meters compared to the 2.74 meters of the 3008. Despite the additional length, the storage space with three rows of seats is limited to 259 liters, which is less than that offered by the four-door Mini Cooper.
However, when the rear seats are folded, the storage space expands to 748 liters, which far exceeds the 520 liters available in the Peugeot 3008 electric version.
Peugeot E-5008 comes with a single motor producing 211 horsepower in the front-wheel-drive version, providing a driving range of 500 km with a 73 kWh battery. Additionally, the vehicle offers a long-range battery version with a torque of 345 Nm similar to the base model but with increased power of 228 horsepower. It also features a larger 98 kWh battery sufficient for a driving range of 660 km.
The higher all-wheel-drive version of the vehicle provides an additional motor with 107 horsepower mounted on the rear axle, resulting in a total power output of 316 horsepower. However, the increased weight reduces the range from the 98 kWh battery. All three versions operate on 400 volts of electricity with a charging speed of 160 kW that can add a range of 100 kilometers in 10 minutes or charge the battery from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes. Owners wishing to charge at home receive a standard 11 kW charger but can upgrade to 22 kW for faster charging.
For hybrid engines, the 5008 has been available since launch with the same 134 horsepower 1.2-liter mild hybrid engine already offered for the 3008. The electric motor is integrated within a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that drives the front wheels, reportedly reducing fuel consumption by 15%.
Peugeot also states that the hybrid vehicle can operate up to 50% of the time in electric mode, particularly in low-speed urban settings.
