It has been 14 years since the current generation of the Nissan Patrol was first introduced, and eight years since it made its way to North America, remaining almost unchanged as the second generation of the Nissan Armada.
Fortunately, Nissan is in the process of developing a new generation model. According to the attached images, this new generation may bear some resemblance to the independent design study. The upcoming designs were created by Kelsonik and are based on the 2025 Infiniti QX80 model.
As such, the overall shape of the full-size SUV is similar to the more luxurious QX80, but it has significantly different front and rear facades. The 2025 Patrol features a massive front grille, even larger than that of the previous model.
New headlights are positioned on either side of this grille, each adorned with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. In comparison to the QX80, the Patrol will be more powerful and practical. As such, Kelsonik has designed it with traditional door handles, rather than those that retract into the body as seen in Infiniti.
The rear of the new model features a rear door similar in shape and size to the QX80, accompanied by a pair of modified LED taillights and a full-width light strip. Like its predecessor, the new model will rely on a ladder frame structure.
However, the 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 400 horsepower will be replaced by a twin-turbo V6 engine, which provides an additional 50 horsepower and 699 Nm of torque in the new QX80. While Nissan is not currently developing any diesel engines for the new model, there is a possibility of introducing one of the ePower hybrid systems, especially in markets where the Patrol is offered.
Nissan’s Global Product Strategy and Planning Director, Ivan Espinoza, confirmed late last year that the 2025 Patrol will significantly enhance “overall performance” and provide “better driving dynamics,” thanks to improvements made to the chassis and steering. It should also be more capable off-road than its predecessor.
In the United States, the Nissan Armada competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota Sequoia in the full-size SUV segment. Outside of North America, its primary competitor is the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. Both the Armada and its sibling, the Patrol, are expected to make their debut before the end of this year.
