Leapmotor, backed by Stellantis, has launched the new C16 model in China. This vehicle combines familiar design with options for fully electric or extended-range powertrains. The design of the C16 is inspired by the smaller C10, featuring curvy body lines, hidden door handles, and LED lighting units. Additionally, it comes with a panoramic glass roof and 20-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of size, the crossover measures 4915 mm in length, 1905 mm in width, and 1770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2825 mm. To put these figures into perspective, the model is 94 mm shorter than the Kia EV9 and has a wheelbase that is 274 mm shorter.
The interior features a simple design with minimal additions aside from a digital instrument cluster, an infotainment system, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. However, the six-seat configuration is well-equipped with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a 15-watt wireless charger for smartphones.
The higher trims offer more luxury, including a three-zone climate control system along with heated and ventilated seats in the first and second rows. Customers can also opt for a premium sound system with 21 speakers, a 15.6-inch rear entertainment system, and the Pilot intelligent driving assistance system that uses lidar sensors.
The vehicle is available with electric and extended-range options. For the extended-range powertrains, it consists of a 1.5-liter engine, a 28.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 228 horsepower and 320 Newton-meters of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and achieve a range of up to 200 km on electricity alone in the CLTC cycle.
Customers can also opt for a fully electric model, which features a 67.7-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery. It is powered by a developed motor producing 288 horsepower and 360 Newton-meters of torque. The electric vehicle can reach 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and drivers can expect a range of up to 520 km between charges.
The price for the extended-range model starts at $21,439, while the fully electric model starts at $22,264.
