Earlier this year, Kia showcased prototypes of its upcoming vehicles, including the PV5 electric vehicle, which is set to debut in early 2025. The development of this mid-size truck continues, and heavily camouflaged prototype images have recently been spotted.
From a distance, the prototype looks like a typical LCV, characterized by its boxy shape and typical dimensions for this category. However, a closer look at the exposed side windows reveals that this is the upcoming Kia PV5, likely featuring the final production body. Notable differences in this version compared to the prototype include traditional side mirrors, slightly modified glass sections, and black accents. Unpainted plastic cladding around the wheel arches is also visible.
The prototype was photographed in Germany alongside the similarly sized Volkswagen ID.Buzz and the slightly larger Hyundai Staria, providing a good idea of the vehicle's overall size. The Volkswagen electric vehicle measures 4712 mm in length, while the Hyundai is 5255 mm long. Production models may have been used for performance testing, a common practice in the automotive industry.
The Kia PV5 will be available in base body styles, truck, high roof, and cabin. This has been made possible by interchangeable body units. They will be connected via mechanical links and electromagnetic mounting points, allowing owners to customize the PV5 according to their needs. All Kia vehicles designed for this purpose will be based on the e-CCPM platform. The company has not yet announced details regarding battery pack and electric motor specifications.
More prototypes of the Kia PV5 are expected to be seen as its debut approaches. The model will later join the smaller PV1 and the larger PV7, expanding Kia's dedicated vehicle lineup. All of these will be produced at a new facility in Korea with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. The automaker has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Uber to develop and deploy PBVs in the passenger transport service sector.
