At the end of last month, details regarding the new BYD Han model began to surface, now referred to as Han L. Recently, more information and spy photos of this new car have appeared, including images of the interior cabin. Chinese sources indicate that the vehicle will be unveiled later this year and sold alongside the traditional Han model.
From the spy shots, the overall design of the Han L resembles the Qin L. Although the steering wheel is brown, the shape and four-sided design are very similar to the Qin L. The instrument panel is LCD, and the streamlined infotainment screen is also located on the dashboard. Meanwhile, part of the center console area is exposed, as is a small part of the door panel.
We can see that the vehicle has a predominantly brown interior, though the brown appears in varying shades. The part of the steering wheel matches the visible part on the door panel, and it seems that part of the dashboard may also be the same color. However, the cover for the small opening in the center console is much darker. We can clearly see two cup holders in the center console, and the area around the gear selector seems to have a relatively large number of control buttons. The center console features a streamlined design with an open storage compartment below. There is not much we can learn from the spy photos of the second row, other than that the legroom appears quite reasonable.
With the ongoing camouflage of the exterior, we cannot say much about the vehicle's exterior. It appears that both the front and rear light units are temporary test units. However, we can see that the mirrors are now mounted on the actual metal part of the doors instead of coming from the window line as in the current Han.
The new car will come in two versions, one fully electric and the other PHEV. In the case of the PHEV, the vehicle will be equipped with the DM 5.0 transmission system. Given the size of the vehicle, this likely means that the more powerful version relies on a 1.5 gjv engine with a maximum power of 115 kilowatts, alongside a likely 200 kilowatt electric motor. The electric version will use the e-platform 3.0 Evo and its associated technology, such as the 12-in-1 electric drive system.
It is worth noting that there may be very little size difference between the BYD Han and Han L. Recently, the DM 5.0 technology versions of Song L and Song Plus were launched at the same event, and there is a 5mm length difference between the two vehicles.
