Hyundai has reaffirmed its commitment to the future of hydrogen engines with plans to establish and develop a hydrogen-based mobility system in Saudi Arabia. The Korean automaker has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korean Automobile Technology Institute (KATECH), Air Products Qudra, and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO).
The parties agreed to collaborate on the establishment of a hydrogen-based mobility system in Saudi Arabia and provide support for technological services and human resources. Specific areas of collaboration include enhancing pilot projects for commercial vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells and exploring opportunities for joint research in the hydrogen mobility sector.
Hyundai is expected to supply SAPTCO with commercial vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells as part of this partnership. Meanwhile, KATECH is expected to explore further opportunities for collaboration in research and development. APQ will secure hydrogen supply in Saudi Arabia for this partnership. SAPTCO is expected to work closely with stakeholders to formulate a long-term plan aimed at expanding the hydrogen-based mobility ecosystem in the country.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor, stated: “This partnership with key stakeholders in the country marks a milestone in our efforts to create a sustainable hydrogen value chain in Saudi Arabia. We also plan to continuously expand the hydrogen-based mobility industry in line with Saudi Arabia’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions.”
