Hyundai recently announced that its sub-brand Genesis will actively participate in international auto racing, which has delighted its dealer representative in Saudi Arabia. The company stated that this marks an important step forward for the Genesis brand as it plans to compete in events such as touring car races, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the World Rally Championship.
Over the years, Hyundai has reshaped its image by participating in renowned racing series like the World Rally Championship (WRC) and Touring Car Racing (TCR), gradually becoming a significant force. This transformation paved the way for the development of various models under the N brand, which includes high-performance hatchbacks, sedans, and even high-performance electric vehicles.
Hyundai Motorsport announced its entry into the World Endurance Championship (WEC), a series under the International Automobile Federation (FIA) that includes the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The team will compete under the Genesis brand, but a specific timeline has not yet been provided.
It has been confirmed that the factory team will compete in the LMDh category, one of the two categories in the top-level hypercar division of WEC, alongside LMH. The main difference between the two categories is that LMH allows manufacturers to design and build their cars entirely from scratch.
In contrast, LMDh cars must include a certain proportion of standard components, particularly in the chassis and suspension systems, which are supplied by four licensed companies: Dallara, Multimatic, Ligier, and Oreca.
Genesis will compete against racing cars from Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Porsche, Alpine, and Lamborghini in the LMDh category. Reports indicate that participation is set for 2026, but this has yet to be confirmed.
