In the context of global automakers lowering their ambitions for electric vehicles, GMC continues to pursue its plans to lead in the electric truck market and sales in the United States. According to GMC's global vice president Duncan Aldred, the electric Sierra truck is expected to outperform competitors like Ford, Tesla, and Rivian.
The electric Sierra truck has recently started being delivered to customers, alongside similar trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado. However, GMC's electric Sierra distinguishes itself with a higher luxury positioning.
The Sierra features better materials, a larger screen, and many advanced features such as the Super Cruise system and crab mode, all of which come as standard. Both the GMC Sierra electric and Chevrolet Silverado have a driving range of 708 kilometers, with the same power output of 753 horsepower and identical torque.
Apart from competition with General Motors, Tesla's Cybertruck poses another threat. Aldred stated that 70% of Cybertruck buyers are current Tesla owners, while 80% of reservations for the GMC electric truck are from non-GMC owners, indicating that it is attracting new customers.
GMC has not specified when it might lead in sales in this category, but it is estimated that sales will increase with the introduction of lower-priced vehicle versions coming soon.
