Foxtron, the automotive division of Foxconn, recently revealed its new all-electric minivan Model D. This vehicle is a near-production concept that presents Foxtron's vision for the future of fully electric minivans, designed in collaboration with the renowned design firm Pininfarina.
Model D is described as a versatile vehicle suitable for modern lifestyles, combining features of both SUVs and MPVs. The vehicle is equipped with high-tech LED lights at both ends, featuring a sharp design somewhat reminiscent of the latest Skoda models. Despite its large dimensions, the aerodynamic channels and air curtains help achieve an impressive drag coefficient of 0.23, which is quite remarkable for a vehicle of its size.
Model D measures approximately 5195 mm in length, 1995 mm in width, and 1785 mm in height, making it slightly larger than the Toyota Sienna. Inside, it accommodates seven passengers in a 2+2+3 seating arrangement, with captain's chairs in the second row. The dashboard features a digital instrument cluster alongside a large touchscreen for infotainment, with dual screens for rear passengers on the back of the seats. Given Foxconn's reputation for manufacturing iPhones, charging stations for iPhones and devices have been thoughtfully integrated into the rear armrest.
Pininfarina's Chief Creative Officer Felix Kilbertus stated that the electric vehicle was designed “from the inside out,” aiming to maximize interior space without compromising on “elegant and streamlined exterior design.” He described Model D as “a significant evolution from traditional SUVs,” meaning “it offers more space while still looking good.”
This fully electric minivan relies on a new platform developed by ZF Chassis Modules. It features an 800-volt platform and an unspecified number of electric motors. The lithium iron phosphate battery is expected to have a capacity between 100 and 120 kilowatt-hours, with an estimated range of around 660 kilometers. The active suspension, which adjusts the ground clearance by 15-25 mm, adds a final touch of technical elegance.
Model D is expected to enter production within two years, although it is likely to wear the badge of another car manufacturer.
