Four Essential Requirements for Foreign Trucks Operating in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has recently revealed four important regulatory requirements for the operation of foreign trucks within the kingdom. The General Transport Authority stated that these requirements aim to promote competitive fairness, improve the investment environment, and enhance safety in transportation services. Adhering to the operational mechanisms for foreign trucks ensures smooth and efficient transportation processes.

The specific obligations for foreign trucks in Saudi Arabia include:
1- Compliance with all conditions and requirements applicable to national transportation in Saudi Arabia.
2- Issuance of an electronic transport document for each shipment entering the kingdom via a logistics platform.
3- Limiting the transportation of goods to the return route from (city - destination) only or to cities and stations located on the return route.

This mechanism emphasizes the necessity of not contracting foreign trucks for transportation between cities within the kingdom. It also stresses the need to settle any transportation violations that may exist before drivers or trucks enter or exit. Additionally, it provides for technical electronic connectivity between the relevant parties and adherence to the approved legal weights.

The electronic transport document serves as a key record of the transport contract, containing details of the sender and receiver, along with a list of goods loaded onto the truck, including descriptions, quantities, weights, dimensions, and transport cost data.

Documents can be issued electronically by logging into the logistics platform account, accessing the land transport services, selecting the registered carrier, and creating the transport document.
