Recently, Fiat's parent company Stellantis released a statement that it will suspend production of the Fiat 500e for a month from September 13 due to falling sales. In addition, a hybrid version of the Fiat 500 will be launched in 2026, named Fiat 500 Ibrida, which will be produced at the Mirafiori plant in Italy.
Between January and the end of July 2024, Fiat sold 74,885 Fiat 500 (both fuel and electric) models in Europe, down 24% year-over-year. Meanwhile, the market share of new energy vehicles in Europe fell to 13.5% from 14.6% in July 2023. Analysts said that due to the lack of clarity on incentives for electric vehicles in Europe, as well as factors such as the value retention rate of electric vehicles, the decline in sales of new energy vehicles is a difficulty faced by all European manufacturers.
In addition, the Fiat 500 fuel model is scheduled to be discontinued in 2026 in order to comply with the upcoming “Euro 7” regulations, and will be replaced by a hybrid version, the Fiat 500 Ibrida.
