The production of Toyota GR Supra and BMW Z4 will officially end in 2026. According to earlier reports, BMW plans to cease production of the current Z4 model at the end of its production cycle. Meanwhile, the Toyota GR Supra will also exit the market at the same time.
Reports indicate that the company manufacturing both vehicles in Austria has laid off 500 employees at its Graz facility, and production of several other models will also cease, including the BMW 5 Series, Jaguar E-Pace, F-Pace, I-Pace, and Fisker Ocean.
Regarding the future of the Supra, the manufacturer stated that there is no new information to announce at this time. However, Dave Christ, the Vice President of Toyota North America, stated, “Our partnership with BMW has been successful.” He further noted, “We are evaluating what’s next.”
While this remains open, Christ said, “If we want to build something, we will figure out how to do it.” This suggests that Toyota may proceed independently with the future Supra, although doing so might present certain challenges.
In the US market, sales of the Supra have been modest, with 6830 units sold in 2021, dropping to 4952 units in 2022, and further declining to 2652 units last year.
First-quarter sales data suggests that another decline can be anticipated this year, with only 484 units sold in March. If this trend continues, the company could end the year with fewer than 2000 sales. In comparison, Toyota sold 2041 units of the GR86 in the first quarter, with 1364 units sold in March alone.
