Cadillac has unveiled a new electric crossover named Optiq, which is a luxury compact SUV positioned below the mid-size Lyric. While the company has not disclosed many details, Cadillac's high pricing on electric models may see some relief with the introduction of this more affordable electric variant.
The new Optiq is expected to be built on the Ultium platform, similar to the electric Chevrolet Equinox, as it is a compact vehicle. The Chevrolet electric vehicle offers front-wheel drive with a single motor producing 210 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive versions with dual motors reach up to 290 horsepower. It is anticipated that Optiq will offer similar power.
Details on the Optiq's battery specifications are unknown, but if they align with the Chevrolet model, it will provide a range of around 480 km. With DC fast charging, the Chevrolet can add over 100 km of range in ten minutes.
Optiq boasts a sleek, modern design that shares some visual elements with other Cadillac models, including a striking grille and vertical daytime running lights. While it may not have the futuristic look of the Lyric, its orange color makes it stand out. Optiq features aerodynamic door handles and 21-inch wheels.
The rear of the vehicle features vertical taillights, with two positioned above the rear window, completely separate from another pair below. Cadillac has not shared any images of the interior, but it is expected to feature another design for the brand's curved LED display.
The Cadillac Optiq is expected to be available in the United States as a 2025 model, starting at around $40,000. This positions it above the new Volvo EX30 but below the Audi Q4 e-tron in terms of pricing. Cadillac states that more details about features and pricing will be shared next year.
