The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has specified the conditions for the continuation of vehicle warranties, outlining three essential requirements to ensure the validity of the vehicle warranty. This implementation aims to inform consumers about their rights and obligations in detail.
The ministry stated that the three basic conditions for the continuation of a vehicle warranty are:
1- The malfunction must not result from the consumer's negligence or misuse of the vehicle and non-compliance with the manufacturer's instructions.
2- The consumer must adhere to the periodic maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.
3- The malfunction should not arise due to natural disasters or force majeure.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized the importance of the vehicle owner's manual during periodic maintenance. The manual provides the main recommendations that the vehicle owner should follow. The owner must ensure that inspections and maintenance are completed according to the schedule outlined in the maintenance manual, and that they handle warning signals and alerts displayed on the vehicle's screen correctly.
Regarding maintenance or replacement of spare parts, the vehicle owner is entitled to receive a clear and written after-sales service policy in Arabic, which includes maintenance, spare parts supply, and warranty. Additionally, if extra maintenance is required during servicing, its costs must be accurately estimated, and the completion time and costs must be documented in a signed record.
Customers should not be compelled to pay for any repairs not approved, and the agent must clearly specify the prices of spare parts and the costs of periodic and non-periodic maintenance and inspection services. The service provider must clearly state in a written document the terms and duration of the warranty for replaced spare parts according to the manufacturer's policy.
