The BYD Yangwang U9 has been officially launched in China with a single version priced at $236,000. This all-electric supercar is based on the e4 platform and is equipped with the Disus X suspension system, allowing it to perform three-wheel driving, jumping, and dancing maneuvers. The vehicle is powered by four electric motors, producing a total output of 960 kW (approximately 1287 horsepower) and torque of 1680 Nm.
The U9, representing Ultimate 9, features an all-wheel-drive system, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 9.78 seconds. The electric motor can reach speeds of up to 21,000 RPM. Interestingly, unlike other high-end cars, the U9 is not equipped with NCM chemistry batteries but features BYD's lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
The official top speed of the U9 is 309.19 km/h, and it has been tested at the famous Shanghai International Circuit, achieving a lap time of 2 minutes 17.65 seconds.
The car measures 4966 mm in length, 2029 mm in width, and 1295 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. The capacity of the LFP battery in the vehicle is 80 kWh, suitable for a range of 465 km. The maximum charging power is 500 kW, and the battery weighs 633 kg. The total weight of the vehicle is 2475 kg, which is relatively heavy for a supercar.
The U9 features an 800-volt platform and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes. It also supports dual charging, meaning that two independent charging guns can be connected simultaneously. This technology is not new to BYD, as it has been utilized in other models like Denza D9 and N7.
The U9 has made headlines for its ability to perform dances and drive on three wheels, all thanks to the DiSus X suspension system, which can lift each axle at a speed of 500 mm/second, utilizing the maximum 36 kW of power provided by the 800-volt platform.
Additionally, the U9 features the DiPilot ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), including autonomous parking assistance. The weight coefficient of the U9 is 0.95, and its torsional stiffness is 54,425 Nm. The rear wing generates downforce of up to 280 kg and is equipped with 21-inch Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Inside, the U9 boasts three thick-framed LCD screens, two of which are 10.25 inches, located in front of the driver and front passenger, while the larger central control screen is 12.3 inches vertically oriented. The three-spoke steering wheel is notably large, featuring numerous physical buttons. The cockpit system is called DiLink and is powered by a 5G chip.
