Recently, BYD released official images of its brand new electric hatchback, the 06 GT. This model is the production version of the BYD OCEAN M concept car that was presented at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2024.
The production version of the 06 GT maintains the exterior design features of the concept car, with bold aerodynamic sides that make it a hot hatchback. It features sporty bumpers with sporty air intakes, while the large rear wing on the concept has been removed. The LED lighting design in both the front and rear lights has also been toned down.
Inside, the car retains the same digital cockpit, steering wheel, and most controls as the Sedan model. However, it features a different dashboard and air vent design.
The 06 GT filled the gap between the smaller Dolphin and the slightly larger Ciel saloon. At 4,630 millimetres long and with a wheelbase of 2,820 millimetres, it's slightly larger than rival Volkswagen AD3 and MG4 models. However, it's still smaller than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 crossovers.
The 06 GT is built on the BYD 3.0 EVO platform, designed to accommodate rear-wheel drive single motor or all-wheel drive dual motor models. Although BYD has not officially announced the engine specifications, leaked information from the Chinese Ministry of Industry suggests that this model will come with a single motor producing 215 horsepower or dual motors producing 416 horsepower.
The car is slated for an official launch on 30 August and is expected to be priced between $21,000 and $28,000, with plans to export it to international markets including Europe and Australia.
