Audi is collaborating with SAIC Group to develop a new platform specifically designed for the Chinese market, known as the 'Advanced Digital Platform,' for the next generation of electric vehicles. The two companies first teamed up last year as Audi seeks to expand its footprint in the world's largest automotive market. Initially, this collaboration will lead to the production of three new electric vehicles within the B and C segments, allowing Audi to increase its market penetration in China by over 30%. The first new battery electric vehicle (BEV) developed in partnership with SAIC is expected to launch next year. Audi's CEO, Gernot Dudenhöffer, stated: 'The deep cooperation marks a significant milestone in Audi's strategy for China and strengthens our local partnership with SAIC.' He added, 'We have a clear and shared goal: to combine the best of both our companies to fully benefit our Chinese customers through the premium Audi experience and SAIC's speed of innovation in China.' He further commented, 'Through our partnership with SAIC, we will significantly accelerate our electric vehicle strategy and deliver smart electric vehicle products that meet the needs of Chinese customers. Audi's aesthetics and engineering, combined with SAIC's rapid innovation, will provide Chinese customers with exceptional technological and smart experiences, as well as automated driving features.' Additionally, Audi will continue to sell its current range of vehicles in China alongside those developed in partnership with SAIC. Fermín Sonera has been appointed as the CEO of the joint venture. He previously served as the head of the A to C series electric vehicle production line at Audi and has over 25 years of experience in the Volkswagen Group.
