Arcfox, the electric vehicle manufacturer under BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co.), has officially launched its latest sedan, the Alpha S5, in Beijing. The company is a subsidiary brand of BAIC and currently has four models in its lineup, including the Alpha-S sedan, Alpha-T SUV, and Kaolo. The latter is a small multipurpose vehicle designed for women with children. It can be said that the new Alpha S5 is the most attractive model in terms of appearance.
The car is based on an 800-volt electric platform and features two motors, one on each axle, producing a combined output of 523 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque. It is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and can cover a distance of 419 miles on a single charge according to the Chinese CLTC testing cycle.
This vehicle is set to compete with the BYD Seal. Details provided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China reveal that the sedan measures 4820 mm in length, 1930 mm in width, and 1480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. This makes it 20 mm longer than the Seal, 55 mm wider, 20 mm taller, but with a 20 mm shorter wheelbase.
The car features sharp headlights connected by black trim that extends to the base of the front bumper. Despite the absence of a traditional front grille, the vehicle still boasts a sporty and attractive front. Additionally, it features retractable door handles and can be chosen with a contrasting glossy black roof. The Chinese automaker will also offer it with 18-inch and 19-inch wheels. The rear of the vehicle is just as sleek as the front, featuring colorful LED taillights and a light strip.
As for the interior, it will include a large central infotainment screen and lacks a traditional instrument cluster. However, it will come with a head-up display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and many soft-touch surfaces.
