Recently, General Motors showcased the potential of its concept models, particularly the design vision for the 2028 Pontiac G8 sport sedan. Although the G8 existed briefly as the Australian Holden Commodore, the car's name and the brand's future vanished due to the financial crisis of the American automaker in 2010.
The introduction of the G8 prototype marked a significant development for General Motors under this brand, featuring a bold and robust design. The car boasts muscular lines, especially at the rear, with front-end design elements inspired by Cadillac. The model's design closely resembles the current C8 Corvette, equipped with a driver-focused sporty cockpit.
Imagine if Pontiac and its G8 sedan returned in an alternative world as a muscle car focused on the driver! The design team at General Motors did an excellent job with the G8 prototype, but new design studies have transformed this prototype into a design more suited for modern times. The new front end features an advanced dual grille intersecting with daytime running lights and LED headlights, with the rest of the front flowing back gracefully.
From the side, the vehicle has frameless windows and integrated door handles, along with a sculpted lower body. The large-diameter wheels and bold rear parts enhance the car's athletic appearance. At the back, performance-oriented designs are completed with high-mounted LED tail lights, an integrated rear spoiler, a large diffuser, and quad exhaust outlets.
The interior is expected to reflect the sporty exterior with a driver-focused design, including a curved digital display for the driver and an infotainment screen with performance metrics and integrated Google Super Cruise assistance, alongside a fully colored heads-up display.
The new sedan is anticipated to be built on an ideal platform, featuring a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine borrowed from the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, producing an impressive 668 horsepower. A standard 6-speed manual transmission will be available, with an option for a fast-shifting 10-speed automatic. With launch control and a limited-slip differential sending power to the rear wheels, the acceleration time from 0-60 mph could be achieved in under 4 seconds.
In terms of category and pricing, the expected price range is between $45,000 to $60,000, and the resurrected Pontiac G8 will face limited competition, primarily against the electric Dodge Charger equipped with a six-cylinder engine. With the Kia Stinger no longer in production, remaining competitors like the Acura TLX and Genesis G70 are becoming fewer. However, even those vehicles do not feature a supercharged V8 engine.
