2025 BYD Xia: Plug-in Hybrid MPV Offering More Features Than Toyota Alphard

On January 8, BYD introduced the Xia, a seven-seat plug-in hybrid MPV designed for families and luxury seekers alike. With sliding side doors, plush second-row single seats, an onboard fridge, a large multimedia screen, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) across all variants, BYD Xia is redefining what an MPV can offer. Prices in China start at RMB 249,800 (approx. AED 125,150).

Exterior: Elegance Meets Efficiency

BYD Xia’s design blends modern aesthetics with traditional Chinese elements, such as a sleek chrome grille and distinctive taillights. To optimize energy efficiency, air intakes on either side of the grille reduce wind resistance, enhancing performance and range.

BYD Xia measures 5145 mm in length, 1970 mm in width, and 1805 mm in height, with a spacious wheelbase of 3045 mm. Despite its size, the vehicle boasts a tight turning radius of just 5.7 meters, making it surprisingly maneuverable.

One standout feature is the AR projection-based automatic door-opening system. By simply tapping a flashing icon with your foot, you can open the side sliding doors or the tailgate effortlessly.

Other standard exterior features include electric sliding doors, an electric tailgate, NFC car key functionality, double-layer acoustic glass, and privacy glass for the middle and rear rows, ensuring comfort and discretion for passengers.

Interior: Entertainment Hub on Wheels

Inside, the BYD Xia offers a digital-first experience with a fully digital LCD dashboard, a passenger screen, a floating center control screen, and a ceiling-mounted rear screen. These systems support external gamepads and AR glasses, allowing passengers to watch movies, play games, or enjoy karaoke as a family.

The Xia’s proprietary 28-speaker audio system delivers an immersive panoramic sound experience. Hi-Fi music headrests in the front and middle rows ensure each passenger enjoys personalized, interference-free audio. For added convenience, the three rows of subwoofer speakers can detach to function as outdoor Bluetooth speakers. These speakers charge automatically in the vehicle, offer up to 9 hours of battery life, and support external microphones, making them perfect for camping or outdoor gatherings.

Seats: Executive-Level Comfort

The Xia adopts a 2+2+3 seating layout designed for maximum comfort. The front and middle-row seats are upholstered in premium Nappa leather and come equipped with massage, ventilation, heating, and memory functions. Second-row passengers also enjoy added convenience with foldable table boards, leg rests, and quick seat adjustment controls located on the armrests. Air conditioning controls are conveniently placed on the doors for easy access.

In the rear, the third-row seats can be folded flat and stowed under the boot floor at the touch of a button, creating a large and versatile cargo area.

The BYD Xia is powered by a state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid system featuring a 1.5T engine paired with an electric motor. The engine delivers 115 kW of power and 225 Nm of torque, while the motor produces 200 kW of power and 315 Nm of torque.

With a lithium iron phosphate battery, the Xia boasts an impressive combined range of up to 1060 km on a full tank and charge. Acceleration is brisk, with the vehicle achieving 0–100 km/h in just 8.1–8.5 seconds, depending on the variant.
