The 2024 Mazda BT-50 model has received a simple facelift, with all trims featuring a black grille. The front bumper has been redesigned and offers an optional 'Black Thunder' accessory package for a more aggressive look.
The BT-50 underwent a limited facelift in Thailand, primarily focusing on exterior design improvements while retaining the existing turbo-diesel engines. It remains unclear when this facelift version will be released in other markets. Interestingly, the medium-sized pickup from Mazda did not receive the technological updates provided by the mechanically-related Isuzu D-Max, which was updated a few months ago.
Despite being on sale since 2020, the design of the BT-50 has not changed much. The most significant update for 2024 is the adoption of a black front grille from the main SP model across all trims, replacing the chrome design. Additionally, the front bumper has undergone minor modifications and now features a more robust panel in the higher specification versions.
Furthermore, the new 'Black Thunder' accessory package is available for high-spec trims, adding a sports bar, fender extensions, all in glossy black. Similar treatment has been applied to door handles, mirror covers, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of body styles, the BT-50 offers two options: Freestyle Cab, which features two doors and an extended bed, or a double cab with four doors and a more spacious interior for five passengers.
Moving to the interior, the BT-50 retains a 9-inch touchscreen for infotainment or a 7-inch in the base models. It now also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, unlike the D-Max, which received a new 7-inch digital gauge cluster, the BT-50 maintains its traditional gauges with a smaller 4.2-inch display between them.
Higher-spec models feature brown and black leather upholstery, an 8-speaker audio system. It also offers a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
The engine lineup remains unchanged as before. Base models feature a 1.9-liter turbo-diesel engine producing 148 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Higher trims receive a more powerful 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine with 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Power is sent either to the rear or all four wheels via a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the trim.
Mazda has not indicated whether the BT-50 will receive the 'off-road mode' found in the D-Max. While the D-Max is set to be fully electric by 2025, it seems unlikely that Mazda will reach the electric powertrain for its truck.
The price of the 2024 Mazda BT-50 in Thailand starts at $20,515 for the Freestyle Cab version, while the double cab version costs $25,158. In comparison, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max ranges from $14,688 to $34,190.
