Lexus has announced a series of improvements to its flagship sedan LS in Japan, with expectations that these updates will soon transfer to the US specifications and other global versions. One of the main improvements is the new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, marking a continued enhancement in internal technologies.
The LS also features a 12.3-inch touchscreen interface, significantly improving user convenience. Lexus states that the new instrument cluster has been optimized for better visibility and to display information related to driver assistance functions.
Furthermore, the latest Lexus LS has improved driving dynamics and offers more advanced safety features to maintain the competitiveness of this full-size sedan. The car faces newer competitors such as the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class.
The current LS provides a smooth and well-isolated driving experience, even though it lacks the sporty feel of its German rivals. Perhaps for this reason, Lexus has added updates to enhance body rigidity, steering response, and handling stability. The suspension update has also contributed to achieving these benefits.
To reduce exhaust outlet vibrations while in motion, the supporting rubber for the exhaust outlet has been improved. High-speed handling has also been enhanced, while the comfort mode is said to provide a more relaxing experience for rear seat passengers.
Regarding the driver assistance suite, the Proactive Driving Assist feature has been enhanced. It anticipates risks such as pedestrians crossing the road unexpectedly and can assist in braking and steering. It can also help slow down if the LS begins to approach the vehicle in front too closely. The Pre-Crash Safety system uses radar sensors and cameras to avoid collisions while detecting driver distraction.
Meanwhile, the Lexus Teammate system assists the driver in navigating through traffic jams and comes with an advanced remote parking system. Standard equipment now includes a dashcam, and the driver's smartphone can be used as a digital key.
Lexus has not mentioned any changes to the engines, so the same 416-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine is expected to continue. The hybrid version produces 354 horsepower with a transmission that combines the advantages of CVT and four-speed automatic.
