The Saudi Ministry of Commerce recently announced a new recall of vehicles after a period of halted recalls. This recall involves the well-known Korean car manufacturer Kia, covering five models sold in the Saudi market.
A total of 12,978 vehicles are included in the recall, specifically: the Kia Sportage from 2010 to 2013; the Kia Sorento from 2010 to 2014; the Kia Soul from 2010 to 2013; the Kia Cerato from 2010 to 2015; and the Kia Optima from 2010 to 2015.
The reason for the recall in Saudi Arabia is the potential for an electrical short circuit in the control unit known as HECU, which could lead to a fire in the engine compartment while the vehicle is parked or during operation.
