Acura concluded the production of the NSX in 2022, which generated many anticipations regarding its successor. Despite numerous rumors, nothing substantial has emerged so far. A senior executive from the brand confirmed that a model carrying the DNA of the NSX is already under consideration, and the new model will be fully electric.
Exactly one year ago, Acura launched a teaser concept for an electric supercar, called the Electric Vision Design Study. The vehicle was more than just a design, but the brand did not specify aspects like the powertrain or production plans. Now, it reveals some additional details about the future of this model.
Global Executive Vice President Shinji Oyama told a group of reporters at the Monterey Car Week: “We will introduce a new sports model in 2027 or 2028. We may not call it NSX, but it will have some characteristics of an NSX. So, for now, we cannot be entirely sure that this will indeed be an 'NSX', but it certainly looks like a successor regardless of what name the company will give it.”
Unlike the previous generation, this generation will not mix fuel and electricity but will be fully electric. While this may not please everyone, it aligns with other goals of the company. Oyama stated: “Our approach to developing this new vehicle is to make it agile and lightweight. This essentially means how to make the platform thinner. So even with the battery dimensions, we are trying to create a vehicle with less thickness, which provides a larger cabin space.”
