Can this car really go uphill?

Why does the water temperature rise when going uphill and automatically decrease when going downhill, or when turning on the heater with the air conditioning?

My 10-year-old car makes a strange noise when I accelerate hard or when going uphill. The sound is like "pop, pop, pop." Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Peugeot 206 automatic. Exhaust pipe leaking oil and emitting white smoke. The car can move on flat roads but the engine shakes. It lacks power going uphill. What's going on?
