I previously switched from an A6 to a Touareg. Apart from the agility in handling, the A6 doesn't compare to the Touareg. The fuel economy is better, and when the transmission is set to comfort mode, the DL382 7-speed dual-clutch is smoother and more responsive than the Touareg's ZF 8AT.
The chassis, especially the vibration filtering and air suspension comfort, as well as sound insulation (including tire noise), can't match the Touareg. The A6's suede and leather seats easily crack.
I'm not sure if there have been improvements in the current A6, but the initial C8 model had rear seats that were uncomfortable, almost unusable due to their concave shape.
During the two years I had the C8, I claimed the clutch assembly twice. I've driven the Touareg for 100,000 kilometers and have claimed for the center differential. The low-speed turning vibration is significant, which is a common issue with the Torsen C.
Ultimately, choosing between a sedan and an SUV depends on your needs.
