I'm looking to replace the gear shift boot. How do you remove the gear shift knob? Has anyone done it before? Customer service said to pull it hard, but I've tried with all my strength and it won't come off. Is there an easier way?

You need to make a disassembly tool yourself to remove it; it can't be pulled out by hand. Use two pieces of metal to clamp the bottom, and install a set screw at the spherical part and push it upwards to take it out.

I've replaced it, brute force sometimes works wonders, no other way. You'd better buy a set; the ball joint is a one-time use thing, it gets damaged once you take it off.

I changed it, but once the gear knob was removed, it couldn't be used again. First step, I damaged the dust cover, then used a screwdriver to pry open the gear knob, and with a strong pull, it came off.
