There's only a 0.5 difference between 92 and 95, so it's not necessary. For the 2.4 engine, using 92 might trigger the check engine light, and the catalytic converter could wear out quickly. But for the 2.0 Ford engine, it's not a big deal.

The check engine light has been on for a year on my '92, but there doesn't seem to be any issues.

Can I keep using 92 octane fuel?

For an old car, it doesn't matter that much. 92 is fine. Besides, this car's fuel consumption is so high that most people can't afford to drive it.

Sure, I've been using 92 for my 2011 car all along.

The previous owner didn't know what type of fuel to use. I've been using 92 for a year now without any issues.

No, a few years ago during the New Year, I drove on the highway and had to use 92-octane fuel in an emergency. The engine warning light came on immediately.
