Have any of you experienced both D and N lights on at the same time? Why does my '93 have this issue after driving through water?

I recently got a CX-5 less than a month ago, and I noticed that when starting the car cold and shifting to D gear, there's a noticeable "jerking" sensation as the car moves forward. After driving for a while and the car warms up, when switching between N and D gear, the jerking sensation is still there but much less noticeable. Is this normal?
