Why do I hear a sharp "squeak" sound when releasing the handbrake? This has only started happening in the past year.

Today, when I started the car, there was a "da-da-da-da" sound. After turning the engine off and starting it again, the sound was gone. This has happened twice. Not sure what the cause is.
